Allo Allo 2 Character Breakdowns
Note: The age ranges are playing age and can be flexible. Don’t let the age range stop you from auditioning for a part!
Rene Artois Male, 40 – 60, French accent.
The main character. He owns the cafe in the town. A womaniser who is having an affair with both his waitresses, as well as with many of the women in the town. He is a very reluctant hero of the Resistance. If he could, he would happily run the cafe and keep out of trouble, but the Resistance have chosen him.

Acting notes – he talks directly to the audience and many of his responses will be to the audience rather than to the person he is talking with. Lots of expressiveness is needed (rolling eyes, shrugs, etc)
Edith Artois Female, 40 – 60, French accent.
Rene’s wife, and star of the cabaret. Really bad singer. Keeps catching Rene hugging the waitresses, but believes every excuse he comes up with. Very brave and loyal to the Resistance. Often berates Rene for his cowardice.
Yvette Carte Blanche Female, 20 – 35, French accent.
Waitress at the cafe and part time lady of the night. She is desperately in love with Rene and would do anything for him. Will participate in Resistance schemes if she can be with Rene or it will keep him safe.
Mimi LeBonk Female, 20 – 35, French accent. Short.
Member of the Resistance placed in the cafe as a waitress and Rene’s bodyguard. Hates the Germans, adores Rene and has no fear at all. She has become a lady of the night to help the cafe keep running.
Monsieur LeClerc Male, 60 – 80, French accent.
Bad forger, bad piano player and terrible at disguises. He is forgetful and at times very stupid. He is Madame Fanny’s former beau from her days in the Folies Begere.
Madame Fanny Le Fan Female, 60 – 80, French accent.
Former singer and dancer in the Folies Begere, but now bed bound. Deaf, cantankerous and uses her ear trumpet as a weapon. Hates the Germans and doesn’t care much for Rene.
Michelle Dubois Female, 20 – 40, French accent.
Head of the Resistance. Very earnest and serious. Comes up with crazy ideas to get the British airmen home. Publicly says that Rene is the bravest man in all France. Really knows that he is a coward, but she’s stuck with him.
Monsieur Alphonse Male, 60 – 80, French accent.
The undertaker of the town. Loves Madame Edith and wants to marry her. As a result, dislikes Rene. Loves money even more than Edith and has a very weak heart – oh my dicky ticker.
Colonel Von Strohm Male, 40 – 60, German accent.
The town commandant. He tries to be fierce, but he is too incompetent to be really effective. He gets on very well with Rene and the girls in the cafe. He and Hans have the painting of the Fallen Madonna with the big boobies by Van Klump, which they aim to sell after the war. He is terrified of General Von Klinkerhoffen and Herr Flick, but most of all, he’s terrified of being sent to the Russian front.
Lt Gruber Male, 30 – 50, German accent.
Quietly spoken and camp. He loves his little tank and has the hots for Rene. He is very nice to everyone and does his best to protect Rene from the worst of the occupation.
Captain Hans Geering Male, 25 – 40, German accent.
Another nice character, Hans will often speak without thinking. He wears glasses and often polishes them on his uniform when he is talking. He is also terrified of the Russian front.
Helga Female, 20 – 35, German accent.
Secretary to the Colonel and girlfriend of Herr Flick. She is long suffering and has gotten so used to Herr Flick’s schemes that she no longer questions them. For reasons best known to the scriptwriters, she appears a lot in a corset with little Swastikas on it.
Herr Flick Male, 30 – 40, German accent.
Head of the Gestapo in Nouvion. He never smiles or reacts when Helga kisses him. He is constantly coming up with ways to catch the resistance, many of which involve dressing up. He has no sense of humour and is the god-son of Heinrich Himmler.
General Von Klinkerhoffen Male, 40 – 60, German accent.
In charge of all the German troops in the area. He shows very little
emotion in public, but does let his hair down in private. Has the hots for Helga and would cheerfully send the colonel and the captain to the Russian front if he could get evidence of them not doing their jobs.
Officer Crabtree Male, 25 – 40, English and bad French accent
A British agent who has been posted to the town because he can
(allegedly) speak French. Works closely with Michelle to carry out the Resistance schemes. Is incompetent but believes he is amazingly effective in his role.
British airman x 2 Male, 20 – 35, posh English accent.
Got shot down and have been trying to get home ever since. Don’t speak a word of French and usually communicate by speaking English loudly. Typical boarding school boys with lots of self confidence.

Synopsis:

Based on the hugely popular TV comedy series, this sequel to the popular stage production of ’Allo ’Allo continues the adventures of reluctant resistance hero and harassed café owner, René Artois, in German-occupied wartime France. It features many of your favourite characters from the TV series and original stage play.

Still trying to repatriate a pair of British airmen, René, his wife Edith and their café waitresses, Mimi and Yvette, are embroiled in yet another complicated and life-threatening scheme. General Von Klinkerhoffen demands a fortune in francs in recompense for the loss of the infamous painting of ‘The Fallen Madonna With The Big Boobies’, and René is expected to come up with the cash.

But nothing is ever easy. The local undertaker, Monsieur Alphonse, is making advances on Edith. René’s mother-in-law, Fanny, objects to the radio used to communicate with London being hidden under her bed. No one can understand what Officer Crabtree (the British agent disguised as a Policeman) is saying. Michelle of the Resistance has a series of increasingly hare-brained proposals. Herr Flick of the Gestapo, Colonel Von Strohm and Captain Geering all have their own plans to get hold of the money, and Lieutenant Gruber still wants to take René away for a ride in his little tank… The cash, a set of forged notes and a bomb all end up hidden in identical camembert cheeses. What could possibly go wrong?
